This year has brought many changes to our daily routine. The COVID19 pandemic has forced us to physically move away as much as possible, while face masks and other public health measures remain in place in the outside world. The number of COVID19 cases is increasing in Canada and remains high in the United States.

Schools have reopened, with much debate over whether or not  to reduce the risk of transmission. As the days grow shorter and the weather  colder, and we anticipate the arrival of a second wave, we will all be looking for activities to stay indoors.

Activities

As an online gaming specialist, I am dedicated to highlighting the importance of online gaming in today's society. I have shown the financial impacts and the growth of the online gaming industry, as well as the social benefits associated with  video games. Additionally, I  discussed how parents can manage their child's play time.

Online gaming can be a space for lifelong learning in an online environment, providing many benefits to players while keeping them at home.

In line with existing curricula, I will outline how five subjects can benefit from video games in the classroom: English, Math, Science, History, and Physical Education. These games are intended to complement rather than replace our existing school systems. Games can create a fun learning environment designed to keep us physically spaced out at home, while remaining social and continuing to learn.

Language and Literacy

A recent survey by the UK's National Literacy Trust showed that over 35% of children who play video games think they are better readers; the study also found that more than half of the participants read and write gambling-related materials  at least once a month.

I would say a lot of video games have better storytelling than  stories read in school. While choosing the best story games is a subjective task (BioShock is a favorite, despite being rated M for mature gamers over the age of 17), I recommend interactive story games, which allow gamers make choices that affect the rest of the Game.

Telltale Games has a huge collection of pop culture-based story games, from Batman to DC's Fables series, all designed for teens or older.

Games encourage creativity and promote literacy - two qualities of a great English lesson.

Science

Playing video games can result in many cognitive benefits for the online gamer. These benefits include positive effects on  basic mental processes such as attention, perception, decision making, and memory.

Video games can also improve performance in tasks that require good hand-eye coordination and quick decision-making. Video games have been shown to improve the training performance of pilots and surgeons.

There are many physics-based games out there and I would suggest  students start with the Portal franchise, one of the most popular games of all time. Pay close attention to Portal 2 and how the physics-based items have been improved. Portal games are rated E for everyone.

History

History can be taught by video games because they allow us to experience events from the past. Games like the Assassin's Creed franchise (rated Teen or higher) allow players to explore historically accurate settings and interact with historical figures from the Crusades, the Italian Renaissance, the French and American Revolutions, as well as  Greece and ancient Egypt. While events in games may not be historically accurate, developer Ubisoft takes pride in the research that goes into their genuine settings.

The Sid Meier's Civilization franchise is a favorite among scholars and gamers alike. Civilization  (rated E for all) is a historical simulation game in which the player becomes the ruler of a historical civilization and strategically maneuvers through the complex economic, political, technological, religious and cultural issues involved in building an empire. .

Although it is not completely historically accurate, these games can be a fun introduction to important contexts, people and challenges of the past.

Mathematics

Mathematics is "the foundation of game design": trigonometry, calculus, and algebra  come into play in game development. If students are to create and develop their own video games, math will be essential for the game. learning.

Prodigy Games provides free mathematics games for students and schools designed to involve mathematical students.Designed for degree students from 1 to 8 years old, these games have been noted to increase test scores.

Physical education

After you've been sitting  most of the day, it's time to get some exercise. Historically, Nintendo has done the best job of making gamers active and active, with the Nintendo Wii console, a motion-controlled system. Nintendo Wii remains the most popular Nintendo console of all time, with active games like Wii Sports and Wii Fit among the top ten best-selling games of all time.

Nintendo  continued to grow and have active gamers  with its latest  Ring Fit Adventure fitness game for  Nintendo Switch. The game is too new to be rated by researchers, but the reviews from users and journalists are overwhelmingly positive. Ring Fit Adventure combines elements of yoga and weight training, cardio and Pilates in one role play. User reports suggest  it can  impact  health and fitness, as well as being fun and accessible. Both games are rated E for all.
